Changing Their Spots
Political Leopards
It is said that leopards never change their spots, but sometime political leopards do. The long ideological conflict between the right and left has produced many trans-leopards whose advancing knowledge and experience has led them to abandon their youthful allegiance to the ideals of the left and champion a previously despised system of thought. Others have moved in the opposite direction. This page highlights people that have crossed over the bridge dividing right and left, sometimes in opposite directions.
Idealism verses Reality
There are been changes in both directions, with many moving left as they gained “higher education” in elite universities only to move away from this idealism as they gained experience in real life. Although people have no doubt moved in both directions, this gateway is about those who considered government the solution to every problem in their youth, but subsequently found more purpose and promise for society in conservatism as they gained experience in the real world.
Most of the following are examples of former leftists who champion government intervention who have migrated to the right, subsequently supporting individual freedom, self-determination, and responsibility. But examples of changes in the opposite direction are also listed.
It is critical for anyone who really wants the decrease poverty and promote prosperity to consider why these men, who were originally dedicated to the ideology of the left changed their spots and lived their lives promoting what they honestly believed was the road to freedom and prosperity instead of dependence and poverty.
“Conservatism is Calling”
This video provides a good overview, comparing the promises of the left with its performance and then showing a better choice.
